A team from the Valahia University, made up of two teachers, a researcher and three students (two PhD students and one graduate student) was qualified to ICRA and plans to participate in the contest Microrobotics Mobile Challenge. It will take place from 16 to 21 May 2016 at Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre in Stockholm, Sweden and is organized in the largest and most important conference for robotics and automation (International Conference on Robotics and Automation). The conference was enjoyed in 2015, the participation of 2,700 participants - researchers in universities and research centers worldwide.
The competition will be held under the aegis of the Institute IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and micro and nanorobotics Society (RAS-MNRA).
The objectives of this competition are to develop innovative solutions dedicated to biomedical applications (cell manipulation and sorting, minimally invasive surgery) and microtechnologies (micro and nanoscale structures assembly).
In the competition tests conducted microrobot must perform some well-defined trajectories with the smallest errors, and sample micro-assembly, transport and microrobot must sit as many micro-components in a fixed time interval.
The draft for this involvement is to provide a microrobotic device 0.25 x 0.18 mm, able to perform micrometric precision automatic trajectory and also micro-assembly operations under the microscope within an arena with size of 3.5 x 2 mm.
The main activity of the team at the Valahia University is to achieve and develop a system for participation in the contest microrobotic MMC2015, competition tests the following:
The first trial - automatic control
The sample consists in doing the type of trajectory arc, triangle and rectangle automatically - without human intervention - with extremely high precision.
The second test - microassembly
The test consists in introducing microcomponente triangular geometry in a micro-channel sub-millimeter size. Triangles dimmensions are 0.20 x 0.35 millimeters. To illustrate these dimensions, an area of one millimeter square can be occupied by not less than 28 so triangular objects. Blood sample channels intended operation and other specific operations for future minimally invasive surgery.
Third sample - innovative solutions
The sample is to highlight the novelty and utility of the assembly of the microrobot and command and control system of the microrobot.
We improved micro robotic control system, and also its aesthetics and functionality by creating a protective cage around it. At the same time we gave up external cameras for image acquisition and focused on Raspberry Pi dedicated camera.
